Winter Wingding 2011 |
Hey everyone,
Thanks so much for being a part of yet another great Wingding. We ended up making about
$1,900 bucks for the Foundation. Thanks to all the bands! Everyone really played great. The house sound was excellent as well. Thanks to Carl from the LRF for all of his hard work and (actual during the show, facebook) uploads.
You guys are the best for donating your time every year for this worthy cause.
Best,

FIVE LOCAL ROCK BANDS UNITE
TO FIGHT LEUKEMIA
Five local rock bands will perform to raise money for the Leukemia Research
Foundation Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Martyrs' (3855 N. Lincoln, in Chicago)
starting at 7:00 pm.
The 7th annual "Winter Wingding" 2011 will feature some of Chicago's favorite
bands, the Commodes, the Locals, the Polkaholics, Deep End, and the Pat DiNizio
Band.
Although Leukemia is a serious disease that affects family members young and
old, the benefit show showcases bands that are perhaps better known for their
sense of humor. The Polkaholics are notorious for their amusing mix of punk and
polka that really gets you off your seat and onto the dance floor. The
Commodes follow in the same footsteps with "beer-influenced" novelty originals
like “Flying Sausage” and “Dating You is Like Dating Yoko (Oh No).”
Deep End are thirty-somethings with originals like “Truckin’ for Jesus” and are
musically reminiscent of Beck, Guns N' Roses and Pearl Jam.
While not as comical as the other bands on the bill, the
Locals are a loud and fast female-fronted band inspired by Melissa Etheridge,
and Ani Difranco.
This year, for the first time, the Wingding is proud to feature Pat DiNizio,
lead singer and songwriter of the Smithereens.
Martyrs is one of Chicago's favorite music venues for emerging original artists.
The Commodes will appear on Loyola's radio station WLUW 88.7 FM one of the
days before the benefit show to "horse around," play a few tunes, and talk
about the benefit.
Proceeds from ticket sales go to the Leukemia Research Foundation, whose offices
are in Wilmette, Illinois. Their non-profit mission is to conquer leukemia,
lymphoma, and myelodysplastic syndromes by funding research into their causes
and cures, and to enrich the quality of life of those touched by these diseases.
This year's event is a 21 years of age and older show and tickets for the Winter
Wingding cost $10. Advance tickets can be purchased at the website, www.winterwingding.org.
